2018 Subaru Crosstrek Review, Price, Specs
The Crosstrek squeezes rugged styling and standard all-wheel drive into a chunky high-riding body to undoubtedly appeal to the adventurous type based solely on its appearance. Unfortunately, the Crossstrek is one of Subaru’s typical unsophisticated, poorly performing four-cylinder engines, with an optional continuously variable transmission (CVT). However, Crosstrek’s solid handling, excellent build quality, and an impressive array of available technologies help make up for its lack of acceleration.
What’s New in 2018
Crosstrek was completely redesigned in 2018 and adopts a new platform. All-wheel drive remains standard, the mandatory 2.0-liter flat four engine has undergone several updates to improve power and efficiency, and the standard manual transmission adds a total of six gears.

Engine, transmission, performance
Crosstrek’s 152-horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine makes a lot of noise, but it’s not motivating. As with many of our competitors, choosing either a standard manual transmission or an optional CVT automatic is a bit painful to reach speed on the highway. A responsive throttle pedal will help you take off Subaru quickly, but the harder you step on it, the more you won’t get any more from a loaded engine. Other than that, the Crosstrek is a confident driver with responsive handling and a well-controlled ride quality. It feels solid, planted through the corners and grips the road like the best of its competitors. The suspension is tightly tuned and tuned to be non-rugged. It easily absorbs large bumps.

Interior, comfort, and cargo
The Crosstrek is a basic and durable interior that prioritizes functions over form while retaining the Subaru character. That lack of flair is perfectly acceptable at low trim levels, but begins to feel a bit monotonous on the top limited edition models in the range. Subaru’s practical dashboard design is easy to operate with well-marked gauges and physical buttons and knobs. The front seats are open and spacious, and the rear seats have plenty of space for adults’ feet and overhead. The Crosstrek’s freight capacity is not yet sufficient, but it does provide ample storage space in the cabin. Folding the Crosstrek’s 60/40 split rear seats greatly expands the cargo hold, but the folded seats do not result in a completely flat cargo floor.
Infotainment and connectivity
Subaru Starlink The infotainment system is well organized and easy to navigate for everyday use. The standard 6.5 inch touch screen Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, With expected Bluetooth support and a USB port. The Limited Trim Level comes with a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen, and adds a SiriusXM satellite radio and some additional apps. Built-in navigation is optional, but is only offered as part of an expensive package that also includes active safety features and a premium audio system.
